I hope you’re well on this lovely sunny October Monday – the sun is shining through the studio window this afternoon! I wanted to share with you an Instagram trick that I found out about last week, and from looking at the profiles of most of the people and galleries that I follow on Instagram it’s not a trick that’s been well publicised. Sit down with a coffee (or a big piece of chocolate cake if it’s been that kind of day!) and follow the step-by-step photos to link to your business Facebook page and add a ‘contact’ button to your Instagram profile…..
Make sure that you have the latest version of Instagram and go to your profile. Click on the three dots at the top of the screen. You’ll then be taken to the screen to make changes to your profile. Scroll down and click on ‘switch to business profile’ and then on the blue ‘continue’ button on the next screen.
The next screen doublechecks that you are who you think you are, and then you can choose your business Facebook page. I’m an admin for our studio’s FB page as well so I had to choose the right one! Check that your details are correct (you can edit them if you need to) and then click on the tick.
And that’s it – you’re done! The last picture above shows my profile on a friend’s iPad so that I could show you my profile as someone else sees it – when someone clicks on the ‘contact’ button they can choose to call you, email or get directions to your gallery, depending on the information you’ve put on your FB page. Just as importantly, you can now post your Instagram picture onto your business FB page rather than your personal one if you wish to.
As FB now own Instagram they’re trying to get us to advertise on there as well, and switching to a business profile allows you to do that if you wish. I haven’t ruled out doing that for a short-term special offer once in a blue moon, but I’d rather keep concentrating on uploading ‘behind the scenes’ photos as I do at the moment. For me, it’s the contact button that’s useful, and I’ve already had clicks through on my website and a couple of calls because of it.
By the way, don’t get to engrossed in the ‘insights’ that will now show you how many people see and interact with your Instagram posts unless you’ve got a lot more time to spend on it – concentrate on posting beautiful photos as that’s what everyone wants to see!
